The Imo House of Assembly now has a new Speaker following the resignation of Kennedy Ibe who was elected speaker ten months ago.
Emeka Nduka (APC Ehime Mbano) was elected new speaker during a close door special sitting presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Amarachi Iwuanyanwu who called for nominations after reading the letter of resignation of Kennedy Ibe.
As at the time of filing the report, reasons for the former speaker’s resignation had not been made open.
The new speaker was nominated by the Majority Leader, Kanayo Onyemaechi who represents Owerri West and seconded by Uju Onwudiwe (APC Njaba).
This is the fourth speaker to emerge since the emergence of the ninth house.
Kennedy Ibe was sworn in as speaker of the Imo State House Assembly on November 8, 2021 following the impeachment of Paul Emeziem.
