Federal Lawmakers have advised Job seekers in the country to consider enrolling in Specialized skill trainings and acquiring other forms of vocational Skills as it will help ease the burden of unemployment in the country.
The Chief Whip of the Nigerian Senate , Orji Uzor Kalu and his Deputy, Abdullahi Sabi gave this piece of advice at the Unveiling Ceremony for pioneer trainees of the Graduate Employability Skills by Terra skills in Abuja.
Nigeria’s Unemployment rate currently stands at 33.3 percent according to available data from the national bureau of statistics.
This has caused frustration for Thousands Of Unemployed Graduates, sitting idle without any useful source of livelihood.
Another challenge is the difficulty faced by employers is recruiting staff with the right skills set, and this has negatively affected productivity.
At a capacity workshop organized by Terra Skills for Graduate trainees, participants are trained on skills and knowledge in areas such as problem solving, decision making , negotiation, persuasion, influencing , emotional intelligence as well as communication skills
This learning journey is to help give participants an edge in the labour market.
Lawmakers are pleased with the initiative and encouraged other individuals to replicate this innovation as it will help in reducing unemployment in the country and also contribute in solving some of the security challenges.
So far , the Institution has trained more than 4000 graduates since it’s inception in 2004 and hopes to widen its reach as it aims to build a smart and active youth population
