National Chairman of the Peoples democratic party Senator Iyorchia Ayu has returned to the country after a 2-week trip to Europe.
The leader of Nigeria’s main opposition party has been in the eyes of the storm lately following allegations of corruption levelled against him by Rivers state governor Nyesom Wike.
Also the party is struggling to counter the controversy caused by the decision of some of it’s national officers to publicly declare and refund various sums of money paid into their bank accounts as bribes, the party denies the claims of bribery and says the money paid was for housing allowance.
Senator Iyorchia Ayu is also under pressure to resign his position as chairman to make way for the emergence of a new chairman from the south that will balance the power sharing scheme of the party.
While the PDP national chairman was away, the Deputy Chairman (North), Ambassador Iliya Damagun, acted in his place.
The national chairman also communicated the handover to the Independent National Electoral Commission.
