Seven members of one family at Kaura, in Yabo local government area of Sokoto state have been reported to have died from food poisoning after eating leftover food.
Sources in the community said the family left the remaining food from last dinner outside without covering and some family members ate from the leftover food on Wednesday morning, which resulted to their death.
A surviving member of the family who is the head of the family Malam Umaru Yabo said the food was prepared from a batch of corn flour the previous night and people not only members of his family ate from the food.
He said leftover were kept outside without covering and added to new corn flour that was prepared for the day’s meal for the family which resulted in the death of seven members of the family.
Two of his wives and five children of three boys and two girls died from the unfortunate incident he said.
Mr. Yabo said the exact cause of the death is not known yet, but the family is more worried about the demise of the deceased not the cause of their death
He said the remain of the deceased and the portion of the poisonous food have been taken to the hospital for proper examination to ascertain the cause of death of the seven family members.
Chairman of Yabo local government Haliru Abubakar confirmed the incident and described it as a devastating development
He said it is necessary to investigate the cause of death so that necessary action can be taken to forestall future occurrence
No officials statement has been issued from the state government yet and the Sokoto state Police command spokesman said he has not been briefed about the ugly incident.
