The Federal government and other stakeholders have been advised to give more attention to issues of metering in hydrocarbon measurement in order to get the best out of the energy sector and ensure adequate protection of the environment
This will also help in achieving hydrocarbon data for the country
Oil and gas remains the major source of revenue for Nigeria despite efforts to diversify the economy.
But this sector is faced with several challenges especially, accountability which has cut into revenue accruing to government.
Other challenges major the sector is faced with include pollution caused by wastage from oil and gas leakages
At a hydrocarbon measurement conference in Abuja, Experts insist the Nigerian government can only solve the challenges of wastage and stealing, if the measurements are done appropriately and adequately.
And it is crucial it is gotten right at a time western countries are now courting Nigeria for gas supply.
The hydrocarbon data will enable Nigeria account for every molecule of gas and enhance revenue generation.
Apart from the oil and Gas sector, the power sector also faces the challenge of metering inaccuracy
This has not only affected investments into the sector, but also the ability to provide constant power.
In the fight against climate change, measuring and metering is very important in determining the level of emissions caused by these wastages
It not only proves crucial in monitoring and control, but also in developing strategies to combat the menace.
