Thirty-one bandits have been killed by vigilante groups in Kanoma town of Maru Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
This follows an ambush laid by the local vigilante group of the area with support of surrounding villages.
Armed bandits had last Sunday attacked the Kanoma town, killing three persons and abducted eight nursing mothers and their babies.
The whereabouts of the kidnap nursing mothers is still unknown as the gunmen are yet to reach out to their families
An indigene of the area says the bandits who attacked the town last Sunday again planned to attack the village for the second time, but the locals got the information ahead of the attack and laid an ambush for the attackers
Our source said the bandits were, however, confronted by the vigilante group of the area and those from surrounding villages who got the information.
Our source maintained that the vigilante groups moved to the bush where the bandits were coming from and laid an ambush, a move that placed the vigilante group ahead of the bandits.
“Immediately the bandits came close to where the vigilante groups were hiding, they were attacked as they were not expecting any attack.
“The vigilante groups were able to kill 31 bandits on the spot, while others escaped with serious gunshot wounds.”
The successes recorded by the vigilante group is coming five days after armed bandits attacked same Community and kill three Persons and abducted eight nursing mothers and their babies.
