Governor of Benue state Samuel Ortom, has urged the state’s local government chairmen to demonstrate a stronger commitment to the development of their respective council areas.
Governor Ortom issued the challenge while commissioning the Gboko Modern Market in Gboko.
The Gboko modern market, which attracts traders from various states and nearby nations, is expected to increase the profitability of agriculture.

The goal of the market is to promote and advance trade and business in the state of Benue.
Farmers would also have an outlet which would add more value for their produce and that will impact positively on the economy.
The Gboko Council Chairman was commended for demonstrating capacity for leadership and recording this achievements within a short time in office.
The state Governor urged other Council Chairmen to emulate him by taking the development of their Council areas more serious.
The Gboko Council Chairman, Isaac Mtom explained that work on the Gboko Modern Market was started in 1993 by the then Chairman, Jon Uan.
He stated that his administration completed the project to boost the economy of the local government and the state at large.
Politicians, religious and traditional councils commended the Chairman of Gboko, who was awarded with the title of “Asortar U Gboko.”
Gboko Council under its present Chairman has eliminated illegal and multiple taxation in Gboko local government to ensure that business activities thrive seamlessly.
