A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Abiodun Tobun, has distanced himself from the purported plan to impeach Speaker Mudasiru Obasa.
In a statement by his media office on Sunday, the lawmaker said it is unfortunate that some elements will link him with such plan.
The lawmaker said he’s unaware of such sinister moves, plots or consultations relating to matters regarding speakership, and will never be part of any move against the progress of the legislature.
The statement reads: “This is to debunk the rumours making the rounds about an alleged plans to impeach the Speaker of the Lagos State house of assembly Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa or to ensure that he does not return to the state assembly in 2023.
“I Abiodun Mustainu Tobun hereby dissociate myself from any story connecting me to such plans.
“I am not aware of such sinister moves, plots or consultations related to matters regarding Speakership and I will never be a party to any conversation that is against the success and progress of the head of this legislature, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa.
“I am totally in support of his good plans and vision for the legislature and the state at large.
“I am solidly behind any move that will help him achieve his goals and aspirations.
“And for the rumour mongers who are out and bent on sowing seed of discord among us lawmakers and the party, you have failed. As our attention is more focused on our collective and individual success at the coming general elections.
“I hereby reaffirm my loyalty to the Speaking Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“And I urge members of the public and our beloved party, APC to disregard any publication that attempts to portray me in a different light.
“I have a great relationship with the Speaker and I support his re-election to office as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
“I will continue to support him and also contribute my quota to any idea that will help him achieve his vision for the development of the Lagos Legislature and the state at large.
‘Our energy is more channeled into the success of our great Party at the forthcoming general elections, from Presidential to Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and the House of Assembly.
“I implore us to focus our attention on this as well, as we work towards achieving this feat.
“I cannot be distracted from the major focus which is Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu winning the 2023 presidential election and ensure victory for all APC candidates,” the statement read.
