Member representing Eti-Osa II constituency in the Lagos State House of Assembly, Gbolahan Yishawu, has denied knowledge or involvement in any plot purportedly aiming at scuttling reemergence of Mr Obasa as Speaker.
The lawmaker in a statement by his media office, said the news report linking him to the plot is malicious and unfounded.
The statement reads: “The attention of the GOYishawu Media Office has been drawn to a report in some online news platforms linking Honourable Gbolahan Yishawu to a purported plot to ensure that the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable (Dr) Mudasiru Obasa, does not return as Speaker in the next legislative term.”
“Honourable Gbolahan Yishawu is not aware, nor is he a part of any consultations, plots or discussions around the issue of Speakership or any related matter. His focus is firmly on his legislative responsibilities and activities targeted at improving the lives and welfare of the Constituents of Eti-Osa Constituency 02, as well as supporting the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Obasa, to help achieve his legislative agenda now and in 2023.
Honourable Gbolahan Yishawu reaffirms his loyalty to the Speaker, Rt. Honourable (Dr) Mudasiru Obasa. He restates his confidence in the leadership and Speakership of Obasa now and in the future. Yishawu notes that the tenure of the Speaker, as with other Legislators, does not have a tenure limit and in any case, the more experienced the Speaker, the better he gets at the job for the benefit of the people.
“I have a good relationship with my Rt. Hon. Speaker, Dr. Mudashiru Obasa and align with his good agenda to move the Assembly and Lagos State forward. I also support his re-election in the 2023 general elections and as LAHA Speaker. I will continue to support the vision of Mr Speaker to fast-track the success of the House and the development of our dear State”, he said.
Mr Yishawu advised all members of the APC to disregard rumours deliberately instigated to cause misunderstanding and disaffection among leaders and members of the party and particularly Honourable Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The lawmaker added that he is not lobbying for anyone or drumming support for any other person to assume the office of the Speaker of the House of Assembly now and in 2023.
“The focus and attention of every member of the party should be on preparation for the forthcoming elections to ensure victory for Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Presidential election, as well in the Governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and the House of Assembly elections,” the statement said.
