Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has remained non Committal on the issue of campaigning for the Presidential Candidate of the Party Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
Governor Wike who hosted 4 major Broadcast media houses to a media chat at the Rivers State Government house in Port Harcourt the Rivers State capital said he will be campaigning for his party, the Peoples Democratic Party.
He said the party does not only have a Presidential candidate but have candidates for Other positions especially in Rivers State and he will be campaigning for them irrespective of any insinuation about him or the party.
The governor however did not give any commitment to campaign for the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Former Vice President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
When he was asked directly if he will be campaigning for the Peoples Democratic Party’s Presidential Candiadte the Governor said ” there are many candidates within the Peoples Democratic Party and i will be campaigning for the party’s candidates in Rivers”
Going further the governor said whoever is seeking anything from the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers State has to come to him no matter the misgivings.
He added that he is the Leader of the party in the State.
Governor Nyesom Wike has remained at the forefront of the so called ” 5 Rebel Governors” within the Peoples Democratic Party who are seeking the removal from Office of the National Chairman of the Party, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, over his role in the Presidential Primary of the Party and Other matters.
The governor has also at various times accused the National Chairman of being an impartial arbiter.
One of the reasons for the insistence of the Governors led by Governor Wike is the alleged lopsidedness within the Peoples Democratic Party with almost all the top positions within its ranks being held by a Northerner coupled with th emergence of a Presidential Candidate of Northern extraction.
The recent resignation of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ambassador Walid Jubrin, another Northerner and his replacement by a former President of the Senate, Adolphus Wabara, seems not to have placated the governors led by Wike who have continued to boycott all activities linked to the party’s Presidential Candidate Alhaji Atkiu Abubakar.
