Many feared dead as boat capsizes in Anambra

An engine boat loaded with passengers has capsized and reportedly killed numbers of passengers on board.

It was gathered that the ill-fated boat Mishap took off from Onukwu Bridge and was heading to Nkwo market, Ogbakuba in Ogbaru Local Government Area, Anambra State, before it capsized.

The incident happened early hour of Saturday morning.

According to sources, only nine person was seen to have been rescued, while the rest are yet to be evacuated.

Although, details of the casualty were still sketchy, but an official of the State Emergency Management Authority confirmed the incident.

He told TVC News that the Agency is yet to ascertain the number of casualty, promised to provide update as soon as they are done with their investigation.

When contacted, Anambra state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga said the report has not been brought to their notice.

He acknowledged that the flood has made many families to leave their houses to relocate to higher ground, pending when the water level rescind.

DSP Ikenga said the commissioner of Police CP, Echeng Echeng had since deployed police marine operatives to the area to compliment the existing security in Ogbaru, following the flood related incident that affected it’s operatives recently.
