Delta State Governor and PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, Ifeanyi Okowa has flagged Off the State’s Integrated measles campaign to vaccinate children between the Age of nine to 59 months with hopes of reducing the risk of virus transmission and outbreak in the state.
At the Ceremony held in Asaba, Governor Okowa urged Mothers to Come out with their children of the age bracket to get them immunised against the disease while charging the public over imbibing cleanliness in environment.
According to statistics from Nigeria Centre for Disease Control children of age group 9 – 59 months accounted for more than 70 percent of all confirmed cases of measles in Nigeria as at 31st of January, 2022. The Governor urged mothers to make their children available for vaccination centres. He also called on traditional and religious leaders to help in the campaign.
The World Health Organisation and United Nations Children Fund are partners in ensuring that all children of the vulnerable age are vaccinated from the disease and others to reduce mortality.
Two doses of Measles Mumps Rubella vaccine are about 97% effective at preventing measles; one dose is about 93% effective. In the coming days health workers are expected to be on streets to administer the vaccine
