The Chairman of the Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has condemned the reported alleged attack of a journalist by some hoodlums during the conduct of the local government council elections that took place in the state on Saturday.
It would be recalled that a member of the state Correspondents’ Chapel, Mr Hameed Oyegbade of the Daily Trust Newspaper and Daily Trust TV was reported to have been attacked at election Collation Centre in Osogbo, the Osun State capital yesterday.
According to the state Chairman of the APC, Prince Gboyega Famodun, in a statement issued by his Media Adviser, Kola Olabisi, in Osogbo, yesterday, said the attack on the newsman is condemnable and uncalled for.
Famodun stated further that journalists are important partners in the collective effort of the nation building which is the reason APC party wouldn’t support hostility against any of them.
In his words: “It is on record that our party knows the importance of journalists as partners in progress which is the reason there has been cordiality and verifiable perfect working relationship between the APC and the journalists irrespective of their professional attachments.
“It is on this note that I am enjoining and appealing to the attack victim and his colleagues to bury the hatchet and move on with their constitutional calling without any hindrance.
“It wouldn’t serve any purpose for our friends in journalism to allow the enemies of progress to hide under the misunderstanding to needlessly fuel the development beyond reasonable expectation.
“My doors are always open to the journalists and I want to assure all and sundry that the unfavourable development would not create any gulf between our party and the gentlemen of the press.
“It is proverbially admissible that the tongue and the teeth sometimes have their disagreement period which, of course, should not aid their working separately.
“On behalf of my party, “I sympathize with the victim of the alleged attack and urge him to consign it into the dustbin of the hazard of the noble profession”. Famodun said.
