200 million girls and young women across the globe are to benefit from the 1billion US dollar global strategy investment by Plan International.
The Global strategy is aimed at advancing children’s rights and equality for girls.
Chief Executive Officer, Plan International disclosed this in Abuja while speaking at the launch of the programme with the theme ‘ Girls Standing Strong to make global change’.
The Nigerian girl child, is especially vulnerable and exposed to a range of abuses and harmful traditional practices in the society especially in the Northern region.
A report shows that in the North East only 41 per cent of eligible girls receive primary education
There is an improvement on these numbers in the North West, with 47 percent of those eligible receiving primary education, due to differing social attitudes.
Plan International as part of its mandate to promote the interest of the girl child, has unveiled a one billion dollar global strategy for 200m of them, in order to help address their plight.
The new strategy would redirect focus on girls and young people and help to tackle the issues that young people face, particularly young girls.
The ministry of women Affairs assures that the budget for the ministry would henceforth have a budget line for girl child education.
The initiative by Plan International was launched on the occasion of the 2022 Edition of the International Girl Child Day.
It is expected that the initiative will help in addressing the inequality in access top Education and Other Services for girls across the world.
The theme ‘Girls Standing Strong to make Global Change’ is part of the efforts aimed at ensuring that the girl child is able to stand strong and rise above stigmatisation.
Girls from across the world suffer disproportionately from any crisis either Economic or War situation and the initiative will help in expanding access to quality Education and also receive protection from gender based violence and Others.
