The All Progressive Congress APC in Zamfara State is accusing the main opposition party the PDP of bringing in Political thugs Suspected to be bandits to disrupt the relative peace been enjoyed in the state.
The ruling party noted that one person was killed while several others sustained injuries and vehicles set Ablaze during the incident
Addressing a press conference in Gusau, spokesperson of the party Yusuf Idris accused the PDP of bringing in thugs with deadly weapons during a rally to welcome its Governorship Candidate Dauda Lawal to Gusau, the state Capital
“You are all well aware of the terrible happenings in our dear state where some of our innocent youths were attacked by PDP thugs , while they were celebrating the arrival of their governorship candidate, Dr. Dauda Lawal Dare” he said
“This is even coming hours after the directives given by the state governor Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle that all political gatherings in the state are banned due to the security situation which must be the concern of all”
“As the party in power, we feel highly disturbed by the dastardly act of the PDP thugs who used the coming of their candidate to destabilize the peaceful environment we were enjoying before the event” Yusaf Said
“With an order bordering on security and coming from the Chief Security Officer of the state, the PDP ought to have respected this by setting aside their political struggle and seeing public safety as paramount, because even the APC as the government in power has shelved political gatherings to allow for the return of peace in the state, so our desperation must not becloud our reasoning”.
The APC also Wants security agencies to wade into the matter and arrest those responsible to serve as dettarant to others
“We are also aware that Dauda Lawal had no military attaché on his convoy, came in with people wearing military camouflage and raising suspicion that they are suspected bandits and to confirm our suspicion, the gang later shot at innocent citizens where we received reports that some of them lost their lives while 20 others received various degrees of gunshot injuries at the Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital, Gusau” he added
“Although we have since called for calm on our members and supporters, we are still urging the security agents to unravel the intents of this attack, arrest the perpetrators, recover the arms they used in the attack and prosecute them” the APC Insist.
Responding, the people’s Democratic Party vice Chairman in Zamfara Mukhtar Mohammed denied bringing in Political thugs, saying the ruling party Supporters and sponsored thugs attacked their entourage while on peaceful rally to welcome it’s Governorship Candidate
The PDP also says it has not received any notice from security agencies to stop the rally after writing to all relevant authorities of the rally
They want relevant authorities to calm the Zamfara State Government and the APC to order as it has its Constitutional right to go ahead with it campaign ahead of next year’s Election as scheduled by the electoral umpire, the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC. Mukhtar
“Our Party members and Supporters were attacked by sponsored thugs and hoodlums and our vehicles were also destroyed and burnt down by the thugs” Lugga.
“We want authorities concern to call Zamfara Sate Governor Bello Matawalle, the APC and their Supporters to order, as they are aimed at using any available means to stop the PDP From Campaign” he maintained.
“They attacked us, disrupt our activities, burnt our vehicles and are now accusing us of launching attack on their members. It’s very unfortunate” Mukhtar
The Incident is coming less than twenty four hours after the state government shutdown three local government areas, nine township roads, ban Political Gathering among other things due to Insecurity.
