Enugu State has been under the control of the Peoples Democratic Party since the return of Democratic Governance in 1999 with successive governors of the ruling party from Chimaroke Nnamani, Sullivan Chime nd Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi.
They have all enjoyed the benefits of Second term in office but the opposition under various parties have been slowly chipping away at the overwhelming control enjoyed by the Peoples Democratic Party since 1999.
The Party’s internal crisis has also not helped matters with many observers believing that 2023 represents a good time for the opposition to finally make a telling impact in the state.
Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is also one of the 5 Peoples Democratic Party governors at loggerheads with the Presidential Candidate of the Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and its National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, following the conclusion of its Presidential Primary in Abuja.
