Nigeria’s Defence Attaches and Advisers are meeting in Abuja to review internal and external threats to the country’s security.
The conference understands the trans-border nature of the evolving threats.
The conference of Nigeria’s Defence Attaches and Advisers is holding at the Defence Intelligence Agency Headquarters Abuja.
Participants at the conference will be reviewing internal and external threats to the security and Sovereign integrity of the country.
The meeting is coming at a time security agencies are on the lookout to counter the reported impending terror attacks by the United States and Other Western nations’ Intelligence agencies especially in Abuja.
For the participants who are military officers, they have a good understanding of the transnational dimensions that the threat to the security of Nigeria now has.
The conference will also serve as a platform for the reinvigoration of efforts aimed at addressing issues such as Banditry and the North East Security challenges especially the activities of the Boko Haram Terror Group, its offshoots, ISWAP and Ansarul.
This is against the backdrop of the recent successes recorded in some of the internal security operations undertaken by the nations’ security forces.
Taking the Lead at the Conference is the National Security adviser, Major General Babagana Monguno (Rtd) who the Defence and Security Attaches report to.
The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major General Samuel Adebayo while speaking on the rationale behind the conference said the meeting is to serve as a platform for the exchange of ideas, information and Cross fertilization of issues to enhance the nations’ security.
But the evolving nature of security threats still pose a grave challenge to the authorities.
The recent Security alert issued by the Embassy of the United States of America on the likelihood of a Terror attack in the Nations’ capital of Abuja has put most Nigerians on edge and has also led to enhanced security procedures and presence across the territory.
