Climate disaster has increased the number of Internally displaced persons in Nigeria by about 40 percent, taking the number from 3.2 million to about 5 million persons currently.

The Federal Commissioner in charge is requesting an all-society approach, particularly assistance from the commercial sector, in order to ensure that the people of concern live fulfilling lives on the occasion of the International Day of Internally Displaced Persons.
Internal displacement has gradually become an issue of concern in Nigeria, particularly how to reintegrate them in society.
As the numbers of the internally displaced continues to increase daily, government is now seeking durable and sustainable solutions
Tackling the causes, reintegration and rehabilitation have taken the centre attention.
At this year’s commemoration of the National day for the Internally Displaced Persons, stakeholders suggest an all society approach as a durable and sustainable method of addressing the challenges of IDPs
Within available resources and help, so many of the displaced persons have been trained in skills acquisition such as tailoring, carpentry, tye and dye, photography, music, ICT and much more.
Nigeria is one of the first countries to set aside a day for the commemoration of the Internally Displaced Persons
The day that stems from the AU’s Kampala convention of 2009.
