The only way to prevent the impending collapse of Nigeria’s health sector is to improve the welfare of the country’s medical professionals and provide modern equipment in hospitals.
This was the message of speakers at a discussion for political parties and governorship candidates on their agenda for the Health Sector.
The event was organised by the Nigerian Medical Association, Zamfara State Branch.

Poor remuneration, lack of job satisfaction and Security threats, are among reasons Nigeria Medical Doctors are leaving the country to other developed nations to practice.
This trend has negatively affected the Country’s health sector.
At an event attended by leaders of Political parties and Governorship Candidates in Zamfara state, this formed the centre of discourse.
They gathered to outline their plans in revamping the ailing health sector and ways that will tackle the issues of brain drain in Nigeria and Zamfara state in particular.
The dialogue session for Political parties and Governorship Candidates on health sector agenda is organised by the Nigerian Medical Association, Zamfara State Branch as part of activities to mark this year’s Physicians Week.
Chairman of the Association Dr. Sanusi Bello was represented by his vice, Ibrahim Hanu.
He said it is high to time to change the narrative from brain drain to brain circulation, considering the high number of Nigerian Doctors leaving the shores of the country to practice abroad.

Other speakers at the event appealed to relevant authorities to give more attention to the health sector by improving Doctors welfare package and providing modern equipment.
This is especially in relation to public Hospitals to save lives of citizens and the sector from imminent destruction
The theme for this year’s physicians week is Nigeria’s Healthcare Delivery system and the 2023 Democratic Transition: A Time to change the Narrative.
