The International Trade Union Confederation, ITUC is holding its 5th World Congress, which boasts of bringing together over 300 national trade unions every 4-year period, to set the global agenda for trade unions.
At the 5th delegates conference, delegates from across the world are having discussions centered around the theme; ‘The New Social Contract: Climate-Friendly Jobs, Workers’ Rights, Just Wages, Social Protection, Equality and Justice”.
During the opening ceremony, the Global President of ITUC, Ayuba Wabba, who is also the President of the Nigerian Labour Congress, NLC, spoke on the need for a new social contract and its benefits to working class people.
At the conference, the United Nations Secretary-General who addressed the delegates, emphasised the need for better engagements, towards addressing challenges facing workers, especially rising inequality.
The Congress will debate on the future policies of the ITUC, with a focus on lessons from global shocks, technology and its impacts on work, an inclusive union movement, as well as climate and just transition.
