The police in Ondo State have apprehended a 54year-old man, Ojo Joseph for setting ablaze five of his step children at Fagun crescent area of Ondo town in Ondo State.
The man alleged that his wife who is the mother of the children offended him over a little misunderstanding.
He was said to have poured patrol into the room while the children were asleep and set their room on fire.
One of the children was not luck as he was burnt to death.
Four other victims are currently receiving treatment at Federal Medical Centre, Owo .
Spokesperson of the state police command, Funmi Odunlami said the man had apprehended by the police for a case of alleged arson and murder.
She said further investigation would be carried out before charging the suspect to court.
Ondo State has witnessed a string of high profile crimes and attacks in the last one year with the most prominent being the Owo Catholic Church attack by alleged ISWAP Terrorists.
Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, who led the mourning and gnashing of teeth that came with the attack during which over 40 people reportedly died.
The Gunmen had launched a coordinated IEDS’ and gun attack on the Saint Francis Xavier on June 5.
Worshippers including Men, Women and Children were killed by the gunmen during the course of the attack.
The Federal Government had a few days after the attack after a Security meeting disclosed that the attack was carried out by members of the Islamic State for West African Province, ISWAP, a position the state governor, Oluwarotuimi Akeredolu disagrees with vehemently.
The State has since tried to beef up security through equipping Security agencies in the State to perform better by providing the necessary logistics.
The State has also sought to equip the Ondo State chapter of the Western Nigeria Security Network also known Amotekun with better guns to counter the threat posed by killers masquerading as herdsmen and Other criminals.
