Reacting to the issue, Veteran Journalits, Babajide Kolade Otitoju stated on Saturday’s edition of Issues with Jide that the Peoples Democratic Party have a big crisis on their hands but the events of the last few days have shown that they have not foreclosed the possibility of the resolution of this matter.
Governor Wike also stated that the resolution of the matter has not been foreclosed, but what is desired is for fairness, justice and equity to prevail in the party which according to him is the hallmark of the PDP
Wike added that they will continue to explore possibilities of arriving at the consensus that will ensure that this lingering crisis ends.
The Presidential candidate of the PDP, Atiku Abubakar has also approached former head of state, Ibrahim Babangida to use his good standing in the country to intervene in the PDP crisis as an elder stateman of the party.
Mr Otitoju stated that somehow people have come to the conclusion that former President Goodluck Jonathan has some influence and level of control over some of the aggrieved governors.
Some have also said that Wike is punishing Atiku for his role in the establishment of the APC in 2015, following their boycott of President Jonathan. Many of them defected from the PDP to join the APC.
But former President Goodluck Jonathan has distanced himself from the activities of the five governors.
BKO added that no doubt time is running out for the PDP but in politics, Never Say Never, It is still possible for some form of resolution to be achieved.
“I’m concerned for them because time is really ticking fast and the elections are extremely close.
“So much damage is being done to the party by the fact that these people do not resolve their differences.
Speaking on the issue of the national PDP chairman, Iyiorcha Ayu, BKO said it is too late in the day to be thinking of changing
the national championship.
He said those who passed the vote of confidence on the party chairman are in the majority, for this reason, Ayu will feel strengthened and believe his position is secured, hence he will not want to step down.
This is not totally a decision of Ayu to take, other persons have t be convinced that the party wont suffer in anyway by removing its chairman less than three months to the election.
