TCN to acquire Equipment to prevent Grid collapse, Others

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, Says it will acquire a Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) to check frequent Grid Collapse and Energy rejection by Distribution Companies.

Chairman of the Governing Board of TCN, Mr Nsima Ekere, made this known during a visit by the Board to its Warehouse and some sub-stations in Lagos

The Transmission Company of Nigeria emerged from the defunct National Electric Power Authority as a product of the merger of the Transmission and Operations Sectors on April 2004, TCN is the Federally owned electricity utility corporation in 2005.

The Company was further incorporated in November 2005.

Board members of the company are on a two day routine visit to Lagos to assess the state of its Infrastructure, Sub Station and level of investments instituted by the TCN aimed at improving the Transmission end of the Nigerian Electricity Value Chain.

But when the wheeling capacity is improved on as promised by the transmission Company of Nigeria, are the Other segments operating across the Value Chain ready to distribute?

The Transmission Company of Nigeria team is optimistic that the Company will be able to meet the challenges of electricity transmission in the Country adding that the present wheeling capacity of the Transmission Company of Nigeria is more than 10,000 Megawatts while generation level remains at 3,300 Megawatts.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has over the last few years has spent Billions of Naira in expanding the capacity of the Transmission Company of Nigeria to be able to wheel out power produced by the various Generating Companies and get them to the Distribution Company for onward delivery to the final consumers.

The Transmission company of Nigeria has over the years expanded its capacity considerably from the 3500 Megawatts it had at the advent of the Buhari administration to over 10000 Megawatts and still expanding.
