The entrance gates to the Murtala Mohammed Airport 2 Terminal in Lagos has been blocked by Members of the Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria. The union says it is protesting the “unprovoked termination” of the appointments of 34 aviation workers by the operators of the airport terminal, the B-Courtney Aviation Services Limited.
The situation has now forced airlines operating within the airport terminal to withdraw flight operations.
The union said BASL Management acted at a time when parties were on the table discussing the said payment, and there was nothing to suggest that negotiation has broken down irretrievably.
According to the deputy Secretary General, Air Transport Services senior Staff Association of Nigeria, Frances Akinjole, said this is not the first time the management of BASL had taken such step in laying off staff after series of intimidation.
