Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says if the Agriculture potential of Nigeria is fully harnessed, the nation can feed the whole it can feed sub-Saharan Africa.
He also promised a Commodity exchange if elected President of Nigeria in 2023.
Asiwaju Tinubu spoke in Minna on Monday when he met the All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Maize Association of Nigeria, Miyetti Allah Keutal Hore, Rice Farmers Association of Nigeria, and Federation of Agricultural Commodity Association of Nigeria, for a townhall and engagement meeting in Niger State.
The former Lagos State Governor said agriculture had played a crucial role in the Nigerian economy before crude oil was discovered.
The APC Candidate said “Northern Nigeria has great agricultural potential due to its abundant arable land,” which has not been properly harnessed till now.
He added that “It must continue to march at the forefront if the sector is to significantly advance at all. Every state and the FCT have some degree of competitive advantage in agriculture, whether horticulture or crop production, fisheries, poultry or animal husbandry.
“Properly developed, these assets will not only satisfy our domestic needs but make Nigeria a global force within a short time.
“If Nigeria fully harnesses its agricultural potential, our exports will rise to the level such that we shall feed much of sub-Saharan Africa, allowing us to better balance our economy while fostering social tranquility, stronger consumer bases, and political goodwill between us and other nations in the region and on the continent.”
On his part, Abdullahi Adamu, the national chairman of the APC, who is also a big time farmer said Asiwaju Bola Tinubu will treat farmers well because he understands their plight.
His running mate Senator Kashim Shettima said the APC Candidate has mentored people and has also made significant investment in the Agric sector with one of his pet project, the Imota Rice Mill which is about to be completed set to be the biggest Rice Mill in the Whole of Africa.
He urged farmers under the various groups to support him due to his knowledge and as someone who understands what it takes to ensure the development of large scale Agro Allied industrial Sector that will harness the competitive advantage the nation enjoys.
