Former Deputy Governor of Abia State and Deputy Senate Chief Whip, Senator Eyinnaya Aabaribe, has disclosed why he and some of his colleagues in the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, decided to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, despite repeated overtures made to him to move to the All Progressives Congress.
Senator Abaribe who was speaking to TVC News’s Olajumoke Olatunji on the Politics Tonight programme said he decided to join the All Progressives Grand Alliance because of the belief that the party is a more natural habitat for him in the South East and Abia State where he is from.
He said it will be wrong of him not to read the room and join a party he said has taken Nigeria from Top to Bottom.
He disclosed that the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, is far superior to any Other in the South East and Abia State.
On why he decided to leave the Peoples Democratic Party for APGA despite his position and previous ones he has attained through the platform of the party, the former Abia State Deputy governor disclosed that the impunity within the party was too much to bear.
According to Mr Abaribe, he and Other aggrieved members of the party complained several times to the national headquarters of the party without any measures taken, he and his supporters decided to leave.
He said the impression being created that he and others like him needed the platform of the big umbrella to win an election is wrong and will soon be shown to be inaccurate especially for those who claim they own the party.
On the chances of the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 Elections, He said whether he wins or not, he has changed the dynamics of the Politics in the Country.
He added that he has now become a symbol of what people in the country wants and commended him for the strides he has made so far.
He said the party, APGA, also has a candidate in Peter Umeadi but Obi’s candidature is a confirmation that the South East is relevant and important.
On the seeming disagreement between the Labour Party’s Presidential candidate, Peter Obi and Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, he said the issue has been over flogged and should be left as it is.
According to him the Electoral Act 2022 as amended has made it a certainty that each vote will count especially with the Electronic transmission of results.
He added that this will also ensure that the bloated and humongous figures normally presented as results of Elections will no longer be there making it possible for the parties like APGA are able to make an impact in electoral contests.
