Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has apologised to former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, over the role he played in ensuring the return of Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, into office for a second term.
Governor Wike who was speaking at the commissioning of the Rumuoepirikom fly over in Rivers State said he was the leader of the move to ensure the former Edo State Governor’s preferred Candidate, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, lost the 2021 Edo State Governorship election.
He said with the benefit of hindsight he would probably have behaved differently.
He described the decision and the moves he made against Oshiomhole’s candidate as Political Payback for the former Edo State Governor’s role in leading the charge against him in Rivers State during the 2019 Elections.
He posited that in Politics you must payback all betrayal in politics likening failure to payback as being flogged by a madman and running away.
He added that failing to retaliate will encourage more betrayal in Politics saying it is no Church or Pastor’s matter.
He admonished the former Edo State governor not to be bitter about his removal as the national Chairman of the All Progressives Congress as it was the will of God.
He said his removal brought a huge sigh of relief within the folds of the Peoples Democratic party disclosing that the PDP would have faced much heat with him as Chairman of the APC.

“People, you must lead by example. So people should stop thinking that blackmailing people will help anybody. It will not help anybody. And I like to damage our cases more. Nobody can intimidate us, nobody can tell us what we do. Nobody can tell me who is my friend. I will choose my friend. Nobody can choose my friend. For me to apologize to you. You know I came to Edo State to make sure your candidate didn’t win the election and I was virtually in charge every day to take you on and I tell you not to win and that you didn’t win”.
“Assignment has been done, but we now know who is who. I want to tell the people I apologize to you is on national television. And you know, each time you learn, people will praise you when you do for them did they say, no, you are wrong. They built to say all sorts of things. I’m sure those of them in my party before they cannot say anything without mentioning Wike. But not because I said let the writing be done, let agreement be agreement, let me endeavor so because I have said that I have not become a noble, I have not become an enemy”.
“These are people who are pressing me morning, night, every day but because we said look, we had an agreement, do this, do that and some people believe that they will not. And we said it must be done. We stand for equity, fairness and justice. That is what we stand for. And that’s why the G Five could not repeat we have said we are not against the constellation but the base of equity, fairness and justice. So I want to sell our products for all the things I said that time. But you too, you prepared me here during the 2019 election you sent in all the soldiers in this world but the people stood firm because 2019 you came here. I was watching you, when you came back and you lost at the Supreme Court. I saw the face of all of you, that national television. So I didn’t know if you had an alternative to make sure you moved away free in this country. So when we succeeded, now go for it and make sure that yes, succeeded, but you did not succeed. So now we are friends”.
“Don’t retaliate in the political game. When anybody goes it back little late, little late because if you don’t retaliate, you don’t know whether you survive the next one. When a madman flogs you, you don’t run flog the madman back. So the madman will not how painful it is”.
“That’s what is expected. Politics is not religion at all. When we go on worship, we worship. But when we’re in the area you do me, I will do you back. That’s how it’s supposed to be. So we’re not saying that if you come to politics, politics is different. As pastor, when you go to church you preach a pastor you do according to the word of God and the Bibles. But when you come to politics, it’s not everything you follow like that. Because before you know it, they will have taken you off. If not that we affirmed your party needed this thing badly. Badly. And thank God your president has given up the best infrastructure State, results have been announced by the president and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces and Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
“So I thank you for coming. I can see what is going on here and people like you who have worked in your state are the people who are invited to come and commission projects that will touch on the lives of the people. It is very very important and I know you are not somebody who will lie to flatter anybody you should that’s why when you are shooting straight as the Chairman of the Party, some people are not happy, they ganged up against you to leave as Chairman of the party”.
“So you can see the reality you may think you want to straighten things. Some people call you back and you are straightening things too much. I know Nigerians, they don’t like anything that’s too straight”.
“They find a way to sacrifice you to make sure the man who wants to do the right thing is taken out of that place. But God’s time is the best and I believe that was God’s time as a Catholic if God has not sanctioned it, it will not happen”.
“Even though we were happy that you are going because you are too strong anybody who watches you talk sometimes the opposition does not know what to say again. So the day you were removed we say God, we thank you that this trouble man is gone he has given us a lot of heat and so you can see how comfortable now we are”.
“If you are the national Chairman now, the kind of things you will say would be problem for us. So I want to use this opportunity to call you to talk to the people. You are from the south south you are a friend to Rivers State”.
