According to the APC women leader, nobody has been as bold as Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu, in the political space especially when it comes to women inclusion in politics.
“We are not asking for I will do. We’re asking for evidence. What have you done in the past?
Asiwaju fought for democracy when it was not in trend to fight and stand up for democracy. He fought very hard to see that women are included not just in the backbone or somewhere in the middle, but right at the forefront.
“When it was not trendy for any governor to run with a deputy who is a female, Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu took the bull by the horn and brought in a woman to run as his deputy, and he won that election.
Betta Edu said the APC Presidential flagbearer have always prioritised women in leadership positions.
“Asiwaju was the first that started the trend of appointing a woman as head of service in Lagos.
“He also gave employment opportunities to several women to come into the legal civil service, and that is why, when you look at the permanent secretaries in Lagos today, which is 100% evident, you’ll see that most of them are women, more than 50%.
“Going beyond that, he was able to appoint the head of the judiciary in Lagos as a woman, a first of its kind in a society where it was purely paratracheal, where you see just men everywhere across board.
She went on to say Asiwaju Tinubu came to Lagos at a point where the state had a lot of challenges, in terms of security, bad economy with an IGR of about 50 million naira monthly . But today, Lagos state is about the third economy in Africa. And in the next few years, it will become the number one economy in Africa.
Speaking about the education sector, Betta Edu highlighted that Asiwaju initiated free basic education and went on to ensure that individuals in Lagos took the West African Examination Exams, WAEC and NECO, for free. He did this to ensure that every child in Lagos State who attends public schools receives a basic education.
Further, The Women Leader stated that Asiwaju is known for his religious tolerance because he is married to a Christian wife and he supported her all through even after stepping out of public office.
Speaking on how to convince citizens to vote for the APC again since many have been disenchanted with this current administration, especially over insecurity and economy, Betta Edu said we need to be very critical when we are looking at the scorecard of the present administration.
According to her, a lot has been done by this present administration to improve our whole situation as a country viz-a-viz the fact that this present administration has gone through a global pandemic that has affected every economy.
“We are not just talking Nigeria’s economy but also other nations of the world, it is a global phenomenon that has affected even the best of economies around the entire world. And so you cannot entirely blame it on the country to say they have not fulfilled what they promised. This government has built on infrastructure.
“They have done a lot to contribute their quota to building the capital things which will of course improve the economy over time. So this is kind of like the foundation that have been laid by the president Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.
“But now the point is for Nigeria, before this time we had places in our country where we had flags of different sects saying that they are in charge of those places. We had incidents every other day before President Muhammadu Buhari took over as the president of Nigeria. Today we’ve had less of that” she added.
