Former Governor of Osun State and the minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has ordered the dissolution ‘Osun Progressives’ a factional group within the Osun State All Progressives Congress.
A former Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Najeem Salam who addressed journalists in Osogbo to announce the dissolution said members of the group are ready to rebuild the party.
The group was the brain child of former Governor Rauf Aregbesola.
Formed last year, it’s members were at loggerheads the former Governor Adegboyega Oyetola till the end of his administration.
The group held parallel Congresses early this year while it’s members were also said to have worked for the emergence of the incumbent Governor, Ademola Adeleke.
Now, they converged on the NUJ Press Centre to announce the dissolution of the group to allow genuine reconciliation to take place.
According to them, it is time to burry their hatchet and work for the development of the party.
Members of the group expressed their support for the party in next year’s election.
They said the loss suffered during July 16 Governorship election by the APC in the state was avoidable.
The group seek integration of APC members without delay for the success of the party in next year’s election.
The division within the ranks of the All Progressives Congress according to Political observers was responsible for the loss of the party in the 2022 Osun State Governorship Election which was won by the Peoples Democratic Party’s candidate Senator Nurudeen Ademola Jackson Adeleke.
Many had expected the rapprochement between the group and the All Progressives Congress in Osun State especially now that former Lagos State Governor, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is now the Presidential candidate of the party.
The days ahead will however show the sincerity or otherwise of the reconciliation between both groups.
