The concept of the One day governor in Lagos State has been described as an experience that should be encouraged across the Country to groom Leaders of tomorrow.
Two former winners of the Spelling Bee competition who normally emerge the one day governor in the State after the competition, Idowu Shonoiki and Ikechuckwu Nlemadim, made this recommendation while Speaking on their experiences as past winners.
Idowu Shonoiki and Ikechukwu Nlemadim who both spoke on the TVC News Breakfast Show on Friday Morning about their experience said the Spelling Bee is a perfect platform to inculcate Leadership in the younger generation.
Idowu Shonoiki who was in the Studio with Kemi Fola-Adeyemo and Veronica Dan-Ikpoyi described the experience of having the power to decide on the fate of Millions of Lagos residents as surreal.
He added that being the governor of Lagos State for a day was not something to trifle with.
He described it as a great honour for him adding that he was overwhelmed with emotion moving into the Lagos State Government Executive Council Chamber and seeing Commissioners, Special Advisers, the Deputy Governor and the Governor all waiting for him.
He said it was a unique experience as he was in Senior Secondary School Class 2 when he won but acted as an SS3 Student in November 2015.
He thanked the organisers for giving such an opportunity to the young ones.
For his part, Ikechukwu Nlemadim, who joined the discussion via Zoom from Enugu said his experience of acting as the one day governor in 2006 was something that has stuck with him and has changed his life positively.
He added that as a completely unknown Student of Ire Akari Grammar School in Isolo then, it is still a euphoric experience for him even today.
On the Experience of being on the seat, the 2015 one day Governor, Idowu Shonoiki, said being on seat officially as the governor with so much authority and the power and privilege was a big deal.
He described it as an opportunity and an honour that he will cherish for the rest of his life.
Ikechukwu Nlemadim who was the one day governor in 2006 said he is still the only one day governor from Oshodi/Isolo Local Government said he went to Finland on an exchange programme paid for by the Lagos State Government and thereafter got admission into the University of Lagos to study Mechanical Engineering and graduated 5 years after.
He said the experience was a path to Leadership not minding the positions that he had occupied before.
He added that the experience has helped shaped his leadership skill as a top official of Guinness Nigeria Limited.
He thanked the administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu who is the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress for the experience of allowing him the opportunity to govern Lagos a Yoruba State by an Igbo Boy even for the one day.
Idowu Shonoiki for his part who is still a Student said the experience has set him on a very different path than he may have taken as a leader, example and a gold Fish who cannot afford any delinquent behaviour that can destroy lives.
Former First Lady of Lagos State, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, was the pioneer first Lady of the spelling Bee competition, then Governor who approved the Spelling Bee Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is the Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress.
