The Nigerian Senate has suspended Consideration of a report by its Committee on Banking , Insurance and other Financial Institutions on the New policies by the Central Bank of Nigeria.
The Senate had earlier resolved to consider the report at Plenary today following its earlier directive to the committee to interact with officials of the Apex bank on the modalities surrounding the policies and report back with its findings.
At Plenary, a member of the Committee, Senator Adetunmbi Olubunmi, explained to lawmakers that the committee had met with the Deputy governors of the Apex bank when they appeared before the committee for the confirmation of their reappointment and have gathered necessary information regarding the new policies.
However, he moved that the Consideration of the report be suspended to the next legislative day due to the absence of the chairman of the Committee ,who is away in Kaduna State for the APC Campaign Rally, and would prefer to present the report in person.
The President of the Senate Obliged his request despite opposition from his Colleague, Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa.
The Senate is expected to consider the report on Wednesday upon the return of the Chairman of the Committee , Senator Uba Sani.
Senator Uba Sani is the Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Kaduna State and is actively involved in the North West campaign rally of the party holding in Kaduna State.
He is expected to succeed the Governor, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, who is in the last few months of his tenure as Governor of the State.
The Senate had originally slated discussion on the Policy that has generated so much diverse reactions for today but that has now been shifted by at least 24 hours to allow the Chairman of the committee participate in the discussion and contribute following the interaction with the Deputy Governor Nominees.
