The spokesman of the Coalition Political Parties has described the decision of the Imo State House of Assembly to vote against financial autonomy for local governments and state judiciary as provocative.
Ikenga Imo Ugo Chinyere says the lawmakers are insensitive to the yearnings and desires of the people they represent, he insists this was done in bad faith and shows a clear Neglect of the people.
The opposition spokesman urged citizens to identify lawmakers who are opposed to the review of the 1999 Constitution and ensure they are voted out in the coming general election and prevented from occupying public offices in the country.
The ongoing process to amend the 1999 constitution across the country has been a cause of concern for people interested in reforms that will promote good governance and fast track development across the country.
But the Deputy President of the Senate Ovie Omo-Agege who is the chairman of the National Assembly Constitution review committee had earlier revealed that local government autonomy is the biggest challenge facing the review process and he blamed the state legislators for aligning with the efforts of their state governors to frustrate the process.
