The countdown is actively on to the 25th February general election in Nigeria.
INEC has now taken into its custody the last batch of the Bimodal Voter accreditation system which some say is a game changer for this election, particularly with the enactment of the Electoral Act 2022.
Dr. Tunji Abayomi, Constitutional Lawyer, rights activists and pro chancellor, chairman governing Council for the Adekunle Ajasin University says the entire nation is excited as regards recent developments coming from the INEC as quite a number of agitation and effortlessness about the election, but it is also profoundly important that INEC, both in principle and in practice, has continued to improve on election.
Mr Abayomi stated that with the assurance from INEC, Nigerians are excited that we’re going to have a free and fair election.
He said it is significant that the President of Nigeria insists that it’s going to leave for this nation a free and fair election, that is establishing the principle of free and fair election.
The Lawyer who said that he believes that the APC is going to added that he believes that the party, the incumbent has tried in a difficult environment.
He said “Buhari is not celebrated as he should, as part of the problem is because the nation went through quite a number of siege.
“The world actually went through siege for us as a nation. It began with diminishing income. The government went into governance at low income level.
“It is very difficult to run a nation without money because how do you meet the expectation of the people? In addition to that, we are faced with quite a number of challenges in security and others.
Speaking further, Mr Abayomi noted that it is now difficult to rig election as INEC has come of age.
According to him, the days in which the overwhelming influence of the incumbent, of INEC is receding with the support of the judiciary as well as the National Assembly.
He added that Nigerians have also gained a lot of consciousness.
He said to establish a free electoral process, your party must be ready to loose
“If your party is ready to lose, if we establish a free and fair election and your party loses, the nation has won and you’ll be remembered, celebrated.
” The nation is not willing to accept any malfeasance, irregularity, irregular election regained by the incumbent.
” All over the local government, the states, there is a greater consciousness supported by the structure of law” Mr Abayomi added..
Going further, Mr Abayomi said the APC has no choice but to accept the outcome of election and that is why the party is campaigning furiously to ensure they win.
