It is 43 days to the 2023 election, one of the most anticipated events that will produce a new set of leaders that will govern Nigerians for the next four years.
With campaigns heavily underway, there are talks about some political parties coming together to join forces in order to get more supporters to win the election. Although the major three political parties are the APC PDP and the LP, and all are campaigning to get the highest votes. It’s still remains a debate as to who would align together to win the highest political office.
Ayodele Adewale, APC Organising Secretary, Lagos State Chapter, stated on TVCBreakfast that the APC does not mind another party joining its ship provided its programs align with and sink into the APC platform that Asiwaju is carrying very high and selling across the country.
Mr Adewale noted that there is enough room for any party as long as it is going to conform with the dictates and doctrine of the APC .
Speaking of a possible alliance of the NNPP with Labour Party, Organising Secretary, Labour Party, Surulere LGA Nseabasi Ekanem said it is
quite interesting that a party that was seen a few months ago as one without structure and without the capacity to win election is now a formidable threat to other established parties.
On alignment with other political party, Mr Ekanem said Labour party is still having talks.
“We are still opening our rooms for political parties to come because labor party is seen right now as the new and prefered bride and so everybody’s coming to the labor party.
“Unlike other parties that are going out in desperation looking for alignment because when they thought they could just win an election, they’ve now seen that their choice of a Muslim-Muslim ticket is hitting back at them because you cannot disregard the Christian which form almost 50 percent of the population and expect to win an election in a country like Nigeria.
“They have learned their lesson they are running around scouting for alliances but we are opening our doors, they are coming but we are accepting them based on our terms because our purpose is to create a new Nigeria.
Mr Ekanem said the NNPP, PRP, SDP and other political parties are coming to align with Labour Party.
“A lot of political parties are knocking at our doors and we are considering them very very meticulously and we will welcome as many as have the interests of Nigerians at heart because what is at the front burner for us is the interest of Nigeria to birth a new Nigeria.
Speaking on the APC Muslim-Muslim ticket of the party, Mr Adewale said we must understand that religiosity will not solve the problems of Nigeria as the country is faced with dire situation and so many others.
According to him, we’ve seen a Christian-Muslim come to lead this country and a lot of them have never had a solution to solving the issues Nigeria is faced with.
“We’ve seen the PDP era Cascade till now and they’ve never really had the capacity to solve the problem, so religiosity is not the solution to solve our problem”
He added that what the country needs now is the capacity, people who can walk the talk, people who have walked the talk, people who have created something from nothing .
Highlighting some of the achievements of the former Lagos state governor, Mr Adewale added that Dubai who are very religious in Islamic affair have not based their civilization or religiosity but opened their economy to various beliefs to come in and improve their space.
“Dubai has moved away from hydrocarbon energy and resources, they’re now using tourism and green energy to fasting and Fast Track their development and civilization so don’t let all follows on people’s narrative and trajectory in order to take our focus of development.
Speaking on how the LP presidential candidate intends to develop and ensure that we move from consumption to production, Mr Ekanem said Peter Obi is one man that keeps telling you that the vast land in the north is the new oil of Nigeria but unfortunately all our political parties are still banking on the oil which is not sustainable.
“Everywhere in the world, we are told that fossil fuels are not sustainable, what is sustainable are things like land and Technology.
“It is only Peter Gregory Obi that has said that he wants to leap frog Nigeria into the fourth Industrial Revolution”
According to him, Nigeria cannot be operating in a civilized, digital economy, in a 5G economy and still think like those in a 2G economy.
He added that in order to improve or to stop the consumption which we are currently doing, we must harness and make use of the large land mass available to us especially in the North.
“There are some places in Nigeria like Niger State which have larger land sizes than Israel and Netherlands put together but Niger State cannot feed itself because the government of Niger state has abandoned their arable lands, they run to Abuja to collect a monthly remuneration.
“Peter Obi believes that we can invest in this land, invest in Farmers, invest in improve seedlings, improve agricultural products so that we can regulate our economy.
“A place like Taraba State can produce enough food to feed Nigeria and to export but for this to happen we need to ensure that we engage all the stakeholders” Mr Ekanem added.
