Governor of Lagos state Babajide Sanwo-Olu says transportation which is the first pillar of his themes’ agenda was something designed out of series of campaign, questions and hearing from the public during campaign and after election was won.
According to him, issue of transportation and traffic management are the most challenging to solve.
He stated this when he appeared on TVC Entertainment program, ‘Your View’ January 2, 2023.

Highlighting some of the direct interventions that has been put in place in the transport sector to date, Mr Sanwo-Olu said about 1,300 High Capacity buses (BRT)have been introduced, 1,000 medium capacity buses, 500 LASTMA buses (8-10 Seater), 1000 LAGRIde taxes have also been introduced.
The governor added that about 8 out of 16 jetty’s have been constructed to improve movement on the waterways, to convey people from one location to another.
22 Ferris have also been added. In addition to that a security command and control centre has also been opened.
“There are also equipment that can go and pick people from the water if there is an emergency”.
This was launched about two weeks ago according to him.
The governor also spoke on the blue rail project which was recently commissioned.
According to him, the plan for public transportation is to have an ‘Integrated Urban Mass Transportation’ system. Integrated using rail, waterways and BRT buses using a single payment solution, the Cowry card as well reducing journey time.
Speaking on the issue of waste and what is being done especially on the issue of value chain and landfills, the governor said there is huge opportunity in waste, a lot of persons are into recycling but this still has not answered the huge opportunity that is in waste management.
This, he said is an investment the private investors can take on. A few persons have come but they finish through.
“I am actually waiting for someone that has the funding that is required to do this waste conversion.”
“We are ready to ensure that we transfer the waste required to the needed location so that it can be converted.
Speaking on the education sector, Governor Sanwo-Olu said education budget is deliberately increased year-on-year because that is one area sustainability needs to be shown.
According to him, to date in infrastructure, over a thousand and forty seven new classroom has been built.
Over 200,000 new chairs and benches have been supplied to schools, over 2,000 bed spaces have been built in boarding schools, and the likes.
Governor Sanwo-Olu said worthy of note is the intervention done in primary schools which include; tablets given to teachers in primary schools for them to have the same learning curve and curricular at that level.
With some of these interventions, we have seen growth in the number of people coming back to our primary schools”
He added that a comprehensive school system has commenced in secondary schools whereby teachers are able to teach things around music, enterpreurship acting and so on to ensure that students come out with a rounded and robust knowledge.
He noted that Lagos has also been able to get two additional state tertiary institution, University of Science and Technology and University of Education.
On short term interventions to retain public school teachers, Governor Sanwo-Olu said it is the plan of the state to ensure that every public school teacher has a hand held tablet so that lessons can be prepared.
The secondary school teachers are not also left out, they are being trained on a regular basis.
They are also being encouraged by way of awards and other incentives including salary increment.
The Governor added that Lagos state is currently the highest paying in terms of salaries.
Speaking further, Governor Sanwo-Olu said the first phase of the blue rail line has been completed which will be officially commissioned by President Buhari later in the month.
He added that safety precautions have also been put in place in terms of CCTV Cameras, local securities inside and outside the blue-rail.
Governor Sanwo-Olu also touched on the health sector and other areas stating that this year his administration will act with speed to deliver the dividends of governance.
