Whitney’s dad, Mike Adeniran in a brief interview, insists that his daughter’s friends have revealed what killed her and the school should own up to it.
CHRISLAND EXPLAINS CIRCUMSTANCES BEHIND DEATH OF STUDENT
Chrisland School, Opebi-Ikeja has made an official reaction to the death of a 12 years old girl, Whitney Adeniran, while also commiserating with the Adeniran family, over the death of their daughter.
The Statement from the School alleged that they discovered that Whitney was not in good health after she fell ill on the 20th of January, 2023, and that the parents were notified of the discovery.
It added that the School recommended that the parents subject the child to a critical medical examination to ascertain what her health status was.
The Management of Chrisland noted that the not-too-buoyant health record was a major reason the deceased girl was not encouraged by her teachers to engage in athletics after she opted for the march-past during training and rehearsals for the inter-house sports event.
In a statement released on Sunday, the school management said that it was during the event that the 12year old slumped in public view and was rushed to the nearest medical facility to save her life but despite all efforts put into the rescue operation by the staff and medical experts at a Lagos facility, She died.
While insisting that there were nothing hidden whatsoever that led to Whitney’s death, the school stressed that it was eagerly awaiting the outcome of the independent post-mortem processes so as to unravel what transpired before, during, and after She slumped and died.
According to the statement, the management and staff of Chrisland Schools Ltd are heartbroken and distressed over the death of our precious student, Whitney Adeniran whose painful exit occurred on Thursday February 9, 2023.
LAGOS ORDERS CORONER INQUEST
The Lagos State Government has ordered a Coroner’s Inquest to ascertain the cause of death in the case of the late Whitney Adeniran, a 12-year-old student of Chrisland School, who died on Thursday, 9th February, 2023.
The Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) gave the directive in a statement today, noting that a thorough investigation will be carried out to ascertain the cause of death.
He said, “A Coroner’s Inquest has immediately been requested in line with sections 14 and 15 of the Coroners’ Systems Law, Laws of Lagos State 2015, to determine the cause and circumstances of the death of the student”.
“By Section 14 (1) (d) of the Coroners’ System Law of the State: A report of death shall be made to any of the agencies for the report of death or the office of the Coroner and be subject to post-mortem examination where there is reasonable cause to believe that the cause of death was: violent, unnatural or suspicious.
“Section 15 (1) and (9) further enjoins the Coroner to hold an inquest whenever he or she is informed that the death of the deceased person was in a violent, unnatural or suspicious situation or believes an inquest is desirable following the report of a reportable death”, he added.
The Commissioner noted that as a responsible government, the security and well-being of citizens are of utmost importance, assuring the public that everything will be done to ensure that the cause of death is determined.
“The findings of this investigation will be made public in due course and appropriate sanctions meted out to anyone found culpable”, Onigbanjo stated.
