The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, has concluded plans in readiness for the visit of President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, to Louis Edet House, Force Headquarters, Abuja, to commission a wide assortment of operational assets acquired to strategically improve on the operational capabilities of the Nigeria Police Force, particularly in crowd control and anti-riot operations, on Monday 13th February, 2023 by 9am.
The equipment to be commissioned include a total of 127 operational vehicles such as Toyota Hilux Pick Up vans, Zahab Classic Pick Up vans, Mikano Rich-6 Pick Up vans, Anti-Riot Water Cannons, Armored Personnel Carriers, Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Jeeps, Toyota Coaster Buses, Toyota Hiace Ambulances, Mikano Trucks, and Crowd Control Barriers Vehicles. Similarly, a large catchment of arms, ammunition, riot control agents such as tear gas, tasers, stun guns, pepper sprays, bulletproof vests, helmets, and other personal protective equipment procured by the Police will also be commissioned by the President.
The Inspector-General of Police has expressed the eagerness of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure a safe and secure environment for law-abiding citizens to express their franchise at the 2023 General Election polls. He also warns all intending troubleshooters to be wary as the Police have been adequately trained and equipped for strategic deployment before, during, and after the elections for the enforcement of extant laws regulating the conduct of elections in Nigeria; and strengthening the general security and public safety across the length and breadth of Nigeria.
POLICE ARREST FATINOYE FAMILY MURDER SUSPECTS IN OGUN
The three suspects involved in the killing of Fatinoye couple and their only son have been apprehended by operatives of Ogun State police Command.
The suspects, Lekan Adekanbi a.k.a Koroba, Ahmed Odetola a.k.a Akamo and Waheed Adeniji a.k.a Koffi were all arrested following painstaking intelligence based investigation embarked upon by men of the Command, as a result of the gruesome murder of the couple, Kehinde and Bukola Fatinoye and their only son Oreoluwa Fatinoye.
The couple were killed in the most gruesome manner on the eve of New year celebration immediately they returned from Cross-over service, and the murderers also set their corpses ablaze in order to cover their tracks.
Upon the report of the dastardly act, the Commissioner of Police directed the Homicide section of the State criminal investigation Department to take over the case and ensure that the culprits were brought to justice.
In the course of investigation, one Lekan Adekanbi, a driver to the deceased family, was arrested based on circumstantial evidence, while investigation continues.
The arrested suspect Lekan Adekanbi suddenly collapsed in the cell on the 2nd of January 2023, and he was rushed to the hospital for medical care. But while in the hospital receiving treatment, he suddenly jumped from the bed and escaped through the fence of the hospital.
His escape further confirmed the police suspicion of his involvement in the case.
There and then, the Commissioner of Police ordered the State anti kidnapping unit to join forces with the homicide unit in order to get the escaped driver and his accomplices arrested.
The two teams, in compliance with the CP’s directive, embarked on technical and intelligence driven investigation and traced the movement of the suspect to his elder brother in Iseyin, Oyo State, but he had left the place before the arrival of the police.
The teams further intensified their efforts which yielded positive results, when Lekan Adekanbi was apprehended in his hideout somewhere in Abeokuta on the 21st of January 2023.
POLICE CONFIRM BEHEADING OF TRADITIONAL RULER IN DELTA
The police in Delta state have confirmed the beheading of a traditional ruler in Asemokwu, a fishing community in Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State as a result of clashes over sharing of crude oil proceeds.
Three other people were also killed in the crisis.
Unconfirmed reports say four officers were also killed when their military patrol vehicle was ambushed by hoodlums in the community.
Eyewitness account has it that the hoodlums ambushed the army personnel in an attack, killing three officers on the spot while others sustained injuries, adding that another officer died at the Federal Medical Centre Asaba.
Uneasy calm has pervaded the deserted community as military officers are said to have flooded the area to restore peace.
Although, the Public Relations Officer of the Delta state police command, Bright Edafe could not confirm the death of the military personnel, he however confirmed the gruesome murder of the monarch.
