Mexico’s President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has finally found a buyer for a luxury presidential jet.
Mexico officials have confirmed that the presidency’s Boeing 787 has finally been sold and delivered to Tajikistan following years of effort trying to sell it off.
The sale of the presidential aircraft was part of President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrado’s campaign promise in 2018 but attempts to sell it met with consistent setbacks.
Recently, the Mexican and Tajikistan governments came to an agreement on a final price of a little over 92 million dollars.
The populist leftist who has for decades railed against corruption of political elites, had previously said he hoped to sell the aircraft for at least $150m, down from its original $218m purchase price in 2012.
The president said the sale demonstrated how Mexican politics had changed under his leadership.
The government has pledged to use the proceeds from the sale to reinvest in Social programs.
Colombians had insisted the acquisition of the plane was an act of robbery against the common people.
