Senator Godswill Akpabio says the Senate under him will not be a rubber stamp, but a partner for peace and national development with other arms of government.
He said this during an interaction with top media executives in Lagos.
The general election is over but attention moves to the National assembly.
The composition of the 10th legislature makes the battle for the top seats in this arm of government even more fierce.
Though, the ruling APC has endorsed some federal lawmakers to lead both the red and green chamber, this has come with some resistance.
Senators Orji uzor kalu, Abdulaziz and Osita Izunazo defiance with the party’s position, want an open contest.
Although he said to have the support of the President-elect, Senator Godswill Akpabio is not resting on his oars as he visits Lagos to consult with stakeholders.
He was accompanied by key senators across political parties to give credibility to his campaign.
Senator Akpabio says about 69 senators cutting across all political parties are already in his group tagged, “Stability Group”. He says his track record stands him out and he is out to create a gender-friendly legislature.
He promised to meet with everyone vying for the position in the interest of the country.
For Senators Jibrin Barau and Ali Ndume, this cause is not for self but National interest.
Some of the issues especially about being a rubber-stamp and the north central question, some senators say, these issues will addressed before June.
The Stability group says they would continue to meet with all other contestants, so the Nigerians don’t experience what happened in the 8th Assembly.
