Members of the Organised Labour in Oyo state have occupied the entrance of the state secretariat in Agodi Ibadan, in protest against what they described as deductions in workers’ salaries and a review of pension benefits.
The workers, in their numbers, stormed the venue of the protest around 7 am, barricading the road, leaving motorists stranded in traffic.
Speaking with newsmen, Chairman of the Trade Union Congress in Oyo state, Bosun Olabiyi, disclosed that for over a year, the Oyo state government has continued to make salary deductions without remittance.
While lamenting about what he described as the degrading state of the pensioners in the state, the TUC chairman said they are also demanding a review of the pension payment in the state, as the payment received by pensioners on a monthly basis is nothing to write home about.
According to him, there are a lot of pensioners in the state who are still collecting as low as 300 naira every month, while others are still being owed for several years.”
