The Ondo state Government has warned residents to desist from indiscriminate dumping of refuse in drains and public places.
This is coming as residents complained about the ineffectiveness of the vendors collecting refuse in Akure.
Indiscriminate dumping of refuse has become a routine along the popular Oja-Oba market in Akure, the Ondo state capital.
Despite the fact that the state government is trying its best to make Akure clean, indiscriminate dumping of refuse remains the order of the day.
Residents described traders as the major culprits, as they are fond of scattering refuse with impunity.
The state government is disturbed with this trend and it is determined to address this dirty habit that has painted Akure in bad light.
The State Commissioner for Environment, Sunday Akinwalere said government will take drastic steps to address the situation.
The vendors in charge of clearing refuse in the town are also planning to increase the fees being paid by residents, due to cost incurred through fueling of vehicles.
But residents of Akure are not comfortable with this development, stressing that the vendors have not been effective.
The state government said it will ensure that friendly fees are charged by the vendors.
The government appears ready to make Akure cleaner, thereby restoring it’s lost glory, as one of the cleanest cities in Nigeria.
