The Federal Government says efforts are on to revive the training for youths to enable them fit into the evolving oil and gas industry.
This is coming from the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Heineken Lokpobiri when he visited the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF Center for Skills Development and Training in Port Harcourt.
One of the core mandates of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund is to build indigenous capacity for the industry.
The centre was conceived to achieve that purpose, and its construction began in April 2011.
It was a project that was meant to last 30 months but hasn’t been completed for more than 12 years.
But the story may soon change due to an intervention by the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board, which is partnering the PTDF
to complete it.
For the Minister of State, Petroleum Resources, work here should be done in less than 2 months.
Currently, the project is estimated at 80% completion.
Additional work is still needed in the provision of equipment, access roads, and finishing for existing structures.
The Center for Skills Development and Training comprises a school site and a residential area both occupying about 6 hectares of land
Thousands of youths are expected to receive training here when it eventually becomes functional.
