Ondo State Government is set to distribute more than 11,000 bags of rice to residents of the state, as part of efforts to cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal on citizens.
The Chairman of the State Palliative Strategy and Implementation Committee and Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa, who took journalists round where the food items were stored, said the state has received 2 billion naira and 5,700 bags of rice from the federal government.
The committee, headed by the State Commissioner for Finance, Wale Akinterinwa began the process of distribution of the palliatives, with inspection of farm inputs, meant for farmers.
The team carried out the inspection in the rain.
From there, the committee moved to the government house, Alagbaka, Akure, to inspect the warehouse where the bags of rice were stored.
Addressing newsmen, Mr Akinterinwa said the committee has received two billion naira from the federal government, out of the 5 billion naira promised each state.
He added that about 12,000 bags of rice will be distributed to residents of the state, to cushion the effects of petrol subsidy removal on them.
He also spoke on the farm inputs for farmers, stressing that the items will be equitably distributed to the people.
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Agric, Akin Olotu, said the inputs will go along way in assisting the farmers.
In the next few days the palliatives will be distributed to the eighteen local government areas of the state
