A middle-aged man was on Monday found dead in an underground fuel tank at EGN, Emmagenix filling station, Vaatia College Junction, along George Akume way, Makurdi, Benue State.
One of the management staff of the company who spoke to newsmen but declined to disclose his identity, said the deceased was the supervisor of the filling station.
He narrated that the supervisor who he simply identified as Emmanuel, had gone into the underground fuel tank to make a repair from where he lost his life.
He explained that the deceased possibly died from the heat and fuel in the tank, but wondered why the deceased chose to fix the tank without the approval of the management and in a hot weather against the standard practice of accessing fuel dipping pits tanks during cold weather.
At the time our correspondent visited the scene, the body of the deceased was reportedly evacuated by the Police and deposited at the mortuary, as the manager of the filling station was also taken to Police station for questioning.
Efforts to get reaction from the State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP, Sewuese Anene, were unsuccessful as she did not respond to calls and messages.
