The Nigerian Army authorities say non kinetic approach is the most effective method to counter. terrorism in the country.
This was the general view at the end of a programme on countering violent extremism organised by the Martin Luther Agwai International Leadership and Peacekeeping Centre for West African military officers and officials of allied agencies.
It’s a training that has lasted for 2 week at the Army Resource Centre Abuja.
The countering violent extremism programme has equipped participants drawn from the military, paramilitary and allied agencies in West Africa with soft skills as part of a non kinetic approach to countering terrorism.
Research has shown that radicalisation drives violent extremism which often results in insurgency and terroism.
Military operations alone have only yielded marginal results in combating terrorism.
But experts insist sustainable peace can only be achieved by non-kinetic means.
This non kinetic approach is development driven, and it involves taking several actions including establishing alternative dispute resolution mechanisms, access to justice and good governance.
Participants will return to their roles with a better strategy and determination to achieving sustainable peace.
