The Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, Professor Adenike Oladiji has called on women in Nigeria to strengthen gender equality, towards achieving positive change in the society.
Professor Oladiji spoke at the 40th anniversary of FUTA Women’s Forum, held at the Obafemi Awolowo Auditorium of the university.
This platform for women of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, FUTA, was initiated to provide a forum to address matters of mutual interest among women in the university community.
Speaking at the well attended event, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Adenike Oladiji said women have demonstrated uncommon leadership role in high places of authority.
Professor Oladiji however encouraged women to learn to balance their careers with their huge responsibilities at homes.
The Vice Chancellor pointed out that gender equality is not only a fundamental human right, but also a necessary foundation for a peaceful and sustainable world.
The guest lecturer, who is a business leader, Opeyemi Udoye harped on the need for the womenfolk to embrace professionalism and be determined to make headways in their professions.
The President of FUTA Women’s Forum, Catherine Ikumapayi said a woman must be able to attain a balance in her career, home and health status.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to women, who have distinguished themselves in their chosen careers.
