The North East Development Commission says it is currently reconstructing the Maiduguri Eye and Dental Hospital to accommodate more patients, especially the Internally Displaced Persons, and survivors of Boko Haram Insurgency.
Managing Director of the commission Mohammed Alkali stated this during an inspection visit to the sites of the project.
Maiduguri Dental and Eye Hospitals have been providing efficient health services to residents in the north east area and neighbouring nations for over 40 years.
Medical students from many states and federal schools come here to study and receive clinical training.
Now, the north east development commission is rehabilitating the hospital.
Part of the mandate of the NEDC is to intervene in areas of development and healthcare counts significantly among these areas
The NEDC’s boss said the commission under its education endowment fund would train medical professionals to enable them handle the modern equipment when fully deployed.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress of work done so far.
The Commission stated that, in addition to other actions aimed at mitigating the sufferings of victims of Boko Haram violence, it is working towards improving people’s living situation in the North East region through various action areas such as infrastructure, education, health and agriculture.
