Taraba: Gov. Kefas tasks newly elected LG chairmen on transparency, diligence

Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas wants the state’s 16 newly elected local government chairmen to bring democratic dividends to the grassroots in line with his five-point agenda.

He stated this during the inauguration ceremony, telling them that their emergence is based on trust, and that they have an obligation to bring progress and development to their communities.

The 16 local government areas in Taraba state were managed by caretakers in the last one and a half years.

The governor put an end to this after assuming office as the nation’s constitution has no provision for caretaker committee chairmen , that are not democratically elected.

The state’s Independent Electoral Commission was subsequently told to conduct credible elections that will usher in democratically elected chairmen.

Those who emerged winners from that election, have now been sworn into office.

The governor advised the new local government heads to exhibit integrity and diligence in office, while helping implement his five point agenda for a positive change in the state.

The new chairmen, on their part pledge to hit the ground running.

Other dignitaries present at the event, tasked the new office holders on putting in their best by way of implementing impactful projects.

The All Progressives Congress, however believes the new chairmen were imposed on the people by the PDP and not credibly elected.

The new local government chairmen will be spending two years in office following a recent amendment of their tenures from three to two years by the state assembly.
