A battery manufacturing company in Ogijo area of Sagamu Local Government in Ogun State has been shut indefinitely for exposing workers to dangerous health hazards.
The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkiru Onyejiocha was at the factory to enforce the order after several warnings.
It was an unexpected and unusual visit of a minister of the federal republic to the factory located at Ogijo area of Ogun State.
The minister of State for Labour and Employment visited the place after receiving several petitions that the company’s activities contravene Nigeria’s factories Act of 2004.
She said the violations include, engaging casual workers, lack of proper welfare for workers, disregard to health and safety measures, as well as release of contaminated water to pollute the environment.
The minister who toured the facility maintained that what obtains there was totally unacceptable and ordered the immediate shut down.
She said President Bola Tinubu’s administration will not condone any act of sharp practices that undermine the safety and health of Nigerians.
The Minister also warned companies to abide by the law of the country and ensure that they provide adequate protection and care for the workers.
