Laying the financial document before the State House of Assembly in Owerri the Imo capital, Governor Hope Uzodinma said the capital expenditure will gulp 82.9 percent of the total budget.
It’s an annual ritual as Governor Hope Uzodinma led members of the State Executive Council and some stakeholders to the Imo State House of Assembly to present the 2024 appropriation Bill before the lawmakers.
Governor Uzodinma while proposing a total budget of 592.2 billion naira for 2024 fiscal year, said the sum of 491.2 billion naira will be capital expenditure which represents 82.9 percent of the total budget. According to him, it translates to 32 percent increase in capital expenditure compared with the 2023 budget.
The Governor says the budget will meet the goals of 10 year Development plan which identifies the Orashi Free trade zone, Agriculture, youth empowerment among other things, to drive economic growth for the State if properly harnessed.
The Governor also said that the administration will vigorously pursue its policy of massive road construction across the state as well as the urban renewal programmes in Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe zones in the new financial year.
